"I was watching me, vaguely questioning my (in)sanity, you know, checking if the foot is still on the ground. In a blink of an eye, my left ear got shocked with that high-pitched buzzing noise out of nowhere, preasure on the brain is it called? my vision went darkened with those rainy braincells in the surface of my eyes, as if it was finally my time to leave this living grave. While recovering from this was not insant, I was thinking, where are all those great moments of my lethargic life appearing here and there like in the movies? Fell on the floor, hit my head, blood all over, I woke up when inhaling my vapouring red liquid, right bellow the sun rays. The smell differed from blood, fukk I shit myself I told me, cannot be... I was not drunk as far as I could remember, cannot be vomit, but may be I puked myself... still on the floor, I recollected the far-gathered solar energy from my body, as if I were a plant in photosynthesis process. Now on my feet... oh... I see, this is happening again... no recollections will appear as final living pictures... I was never born." by schizophedeath - entitled: Deceived. Once again in this trash hole... time will tell who are the ones really carved in hate, it choses you, cannot be faked; like it has always been, I will watch you all disappear, once again. The extension of my ears in my own regurgitated words: WITCHNIGHT(Arg) - Old Steel Breath 2022 CD, by Witches Brew. Within the very same style they practitioned before, their provided their simple but effective Black Thrash Metal. "Southern Warriors" is quite slow and incomplete at times, too little music while slow chords, as if the bass line is unable to fill the whole atmosphere and the vocals are little bit dull with good solo work, luckily the "Old Steel Breath" track has much more feeling put onto it, even the solo is fantastic, doubled vocals on few parts are excellent. "Revenge of the Vampire" is killer too, the vocal is more agressive which is healthy for the track, accompanied by some double-kick drum arrangements elevates the experience along with some keyboards that appeared totally unexpected, another excellent solo work. "Phantoms of the Crypt" follows, nothing to highlight, its solo is good though. "Tyranical Warlock" is a pretty killer track, coming from their reissue on CD "Unholy Speed Metal" , here is better. "Into the old Black Mountain" it's on the average with well done solos, cuts for an excellent classical guitar intro, quite witchy let's say, followed by winds of AURA NOIR(Nor) 's "Black Thrash Attack" then gets slower and fades out, weird. "Caligula" is pretty good too. "La mano Maldita" V8(Arg) cover was included here. It's great to see this band finally released their first album, somehow I feel it lacks of some aggression and power, may be I prefered them with more dirty sound or the clean production didn't help, I am not sure. Anyway this is a good release from a good band that keeps fighting in the underground. These tracks are into BATHORY(Swe), HELLHAMMER(Swi), RUNNING WILD(Ger), VENOM(UK), SODOM(Ger) and some other influences, so be ready to rock on! MORTAL SCEPTER(Fra) - Split w/ DETHRONED(Fra) LP by Dying Victims. I bought this ignoring the fact this was an Split. I had no clue this LP existed, when first saw it, in fact I thought this was their newest album; MORTAL SCEPTER ended up being one of those band you insantly buy whatever you see they release because they do excellent obscure Thrash Metal with energy and guts. This is their 2nd vinyl release, in the middle of their EP "As time sharpens sentence" and their LP "Where light suffocates" . I found this quite inmature despite being post-EP , not musically speaking but in terms of recording sessions. The side A includes "Punitive Expedition" which is well recorded and pretty nice track, not as killer as others but not bad, then "Perish with the Flesh" is here, which was also part of their LP, but sadly here it sounds as a rehearsal with different masterization from what you hear in the previous track, then closes "Left to Die" from DEATH(US) with excellent performance but again, the masterization differs from the previous tracks... so each track sounds completely different one from another... that quite sucks and I don't see the point on it. That really ruins the experience, I prefer a demo-sound totally uniform than this collection of three tracks mixed absolutely different... don't buy this vinyl, I don't know why the label wanted to release this that way, neither why the band opted for such an amateurish work being absolutely skilled and demonstrated in both of their other releases. Side B is for DETHRONED, another fast Thrash Metal. The strongly sharp screams reminded me of DEATHHAMMER(Nor) but I felt those quite overused on the chorus in "Night of the Sinner" , anyway they are skilled as fuk and the music has great energy, but is not too remarkable either... "Speed takeover" is a little bit better, then closes with a VIOLENT FORCE(Ger) cover "Sign of Evil" , it's okey but this project is not remarkable in my opinion, not fresh. MORTAL SCEPTER(Fra) - Demo 2014, dubbed tape. Four track-demo showing off what they were capable of. In retrospective you can see that their creativity on riffs was their highlight. Here is a much more mid-tempo approach not being that fast. "Satan's Arrival" opens this instrumentally. "Violent Revenge" , which appears later on their next EP reminded me of RADIATION(Svk) on their seven inches "Plutonium Overdose" . "Excecution Symphony" was also re-recorded later and in my opinion, this demo provides nothing more than an door for their future releases, which are much much much better, "expect no FUKINNN MERCY!!" . "Nuclear Armageddon" is quite the weird one here because has a different approach on melodies I guess, quite good but not remarkable, drum work is really good mostly while finishing, is it too METALLICA(US) -ish may be? So for those curious to check their beginnings, this is great, for those unknowing this project, well, take this before anything else for proper chronological joy. One of the best projects in the nowadays french lands. BLACK BEAST(Chl) - Endless Night on a dead Earth 2023 , by Trauma Records. Another great release from this label on digipack with pretty good design. This release is no more than 10 tracks of Death Metal in the very vein of the north american vein, think of SADISTIC INTENT(US) , POSSESSED(US) , some DEATH(US) and AUTOPSY(US) with some darkness coming from MORTEM(Per) and its intro ala "Bestial Devastation" . I always found funny the vocalist's way of self-repeating phrases, but ends up being quite effective to remember the tracks rapidly! The tracks are: "Invaders must die" great song followed by "The night is mine" with good screams, "Don't play with fire" PLAY WITH FIRE!! is pretty killer with lots of changes and arrangements, I found their ideas solid and dynamic here. Then "Metal, Magic, Freedom" , "Lex Talionis" which I remember was in their demo #2 tape, "Sign the contratct with eternal darkness" , "Nocturnal force" , "Fuck this world" with its starting note, just for an instant took me to MESSIAH(Swi) on "Total Maniac" , this is also coming from demo #2 and is a great track. The omonimous track was left for the final doom and its good but found it quite similar to "Metal, Magic, Freedom" on its chorus, anyway it's fukin good. I am not sure if it's their guitar distortion or the whole production, but I could not avoid thinking of HELLAVENGER(Chl) . This is highly recommended! Thanks pablo nekroperverter for this one! PROTECTED ILLUSTION(Fin) - Watching the Wake 2008 by Marquee Records. Finally I got this. I won't spare words on the album because I already reviewed it here. I won't spare words on the 1991 EP because is total modern crap (yes even for that time) . I am focusing on their "Opulence and Preservation Poverty and Desperation" demo from 1989, which has 8 tracks, for a demo is pretty lengthy, where you will find a couple of tracks later re-recorded for the album, "Greetings from Hell" and "Decadence" . On this demo you can appreciate a more simpler approach than what you are used to if you already checked their forthcoming releases, probably due to its production and the fast but not-hyper-fast drumming here, they were about to switch the drummer here on. The similarities among the bands I already mentioned before are also found here, but I would add ARMOROS(Can) which also happened to be re-released on a compilation but the very same label, now know why he he , and KREATOR(GER) which I think I had not mentioned before, precisely in "Irrevocable Decision" track. "Rap scappy Jou!" is just a joke track, made me think of "Pippi Lungstrumpf" or however that it's properly written, from AUTOPSIA(Ger) ha! Anyway, pretty killer demo with great sound. Secondly I am focusing on their EP "Swimming in the Moonlight" also from 1989 , now you get your furious deal with deathrashing insanity in the very vein of, as I stated before, SADUS(US) , INVOKATOR(Dnk) , ATHEIST(US) and also MERCILESS(Swe) , this is a fukin classic pre-their debut. Once again, I recommend you to dig into this super-fast-skilled-as-fuk-finnish thrashers. MORBORUS(Ury) - Metal on Metal Single 2024, yet unreleased but can be found on their bandcamp. This uruguayan speed metal commando recorded a top-quality single with a couple of tracks, the omonoimous plus "Hellish Night" . Both are amazingly creative, quite original and smart, in the very same vein they were before, despite some ugly sounds on drumming, and quite digital production, the whole is effective as fuk, the works on guitars and vocals are terrificly well done. This is a great kick in the face for a good back-into-activities since the project was one-man shit but now is a fully functional band, as it must be. The future for this project is bright. For those unknowing this, the brains behind it are the same from HEFESTO(Ury) but this seems to be an improved version of it, darker and more fierce. Hopefully they will be recording more stuff soon with their newest lineup. Total killer speed metal, CRUEL FORCE(Ger) is quite a good reference. Highly recommended! You can find their bandcamp link on their logo on the left side of this site. Greetings & beers fukulo! SACRED CRUCIFIX(Swe) - Demo 1987, bootleg tape. Starting with the great track "Brain Death" with midtempo and chaotic vocals you get the piece of unswedish deathrash metal with some slow cuts with some kind of blackened chords. "Beyond the Cross" also kills, with great double kicks on drums and excellent chorus. Closing with "Blessed Pilgrim" not bad, a couple of interesting tremolo riffs but not too remarkable honestly, but first two tracks are spectacular! SACRED CRUCIFIX(Swe) - Realms of Darkness 1989 demo, bootleg tape. Starting with a "The Fear", an intro in the very vein of "Recrucify" then you get "Requiem" track with a blackened DEATH(US) version ala "Infernal Death", the black vibe comes mainly from the vocalist and the approaches on slow parts including ambient keyboards. "Brain Death" is excellent and comes from their 1987 demo along with "Beyond the Cross", here you appreciate mostly the maturity on their sound, which of course was improved. Last track is the omonimous "Realm of Darkness", an excellent way to kill this release with its decadent and doomish parts. Another of those not-so-swedish recordings that deserves to shine. This was reissued by Ripping Storm Records on 3 CD volumes and also on LP, this is a really great opportunity for you to get this magnific demo! SACRED CRUCIFIX(Swe) - Demo 1990, bootleg tape. "Vlad the Stalker" track opens, deep in their style I may say, they developed a more solid blackened death thrash with their not that fast tempos but with arrangements and drums that flow accordingly. "Chosen one" appears with a boring and awful almmost-clean arpegio-guitar somehow melancholic to melt into the aforementioned state of mind, "13" keeps the mood, at some points reminded me of MORGOTH(Ger) on their "Cursed" album, "Deep in Unknown" and "Wise" are okey in that vein too, this last is like a recycled version of "Beyond the cross". This demo does not stand out more than their previous ones at all, but is a good demo. CURSE(Swe) - Ad Futuram Rei Memoriam demo 1989. By To the Death Records on 10''. As soon as you listen to the production, ideas and the vocals tune you won't be able not to link them to MEFISTO(Swe) , MORBID(Swe) and TREBLINKA(Swe) . "Morbid Death" is great, the first twisted riff took me to Сукина Дочь (Rus) , I knew I had listened to that somewhere before even knowing these russians but I could not recall it back then. Afterwards you get "Inner Memoir" then "Forbidden Prophecy" with a cut with keyboards, not as complex as the ones found on NOCTURNUS(US) but gets that environment. "Reign of regret" closes the short but effective demo. CURSE(Swe) - Integumentum de Tenebrae demo 1989. By To the Death Records on 10'' too. This demo is on the very same year and vein. "Beyond..." opens and has some ambient keyboards, pretty doomish, some obscure arrangements take them more into the Black Metal sphere but not totally, it's a little twist you can find on this whole demo. "Infernal Fate" seems to follow it with almost greek rythms, pretty weird voices where used here as details. "Subconscious Thought" probably the best track on this demo, faster with impressive starting riff with harmonics that kill, great changes can be found on it, as far as I can remember, this even reminds me to AFFLICTED CONVULSION(Swe) . "Theme Underground" is their last track, luckily in the same line, more strange screams who made me think of GOMORRAH(Ger) demos a little bit. All these was embraced by an intro and an outro. As you can realise, this is not better than their previous demo but not bad at all, for those who need to dig deeper in the un-swedish sound coming from Sweden, this will absolutely rip your guts. Thanks so much Rizal for your recommendation, we are indeed in the same tune regarding these sounds ha! MASTER FURY(US) - Hell Party 1988, classic US Thrash Metal in the vein of demons like DAMNAKLEEZ(US), BLOOD FEAST(US) , AT WAR(US) with a little twist that resembles to ANNIHILATOR(CAN) , I cannot avoid thinking of "Human Insecticide" track on some vibes, and checking those connections, Paul Baloff -ish kind of vocals are expected, after "hell party" intro you get "Crash" where you can hear what I wrote. This is an 8-tracks album that totally kills, short effective and skull crushing , in the background I can feel some punk attitude that I would say street thrash metal in the essence of DEATH STRIKE(US) , HELLBASTARD(UK) , perceivable on "Are all men blind" and "Time is Right" . "Flat against the wall" took me even to GROUND ZERO (Jpn) 's "Driven to the wall" , yes, I know it's different, may be the chorus pressed the tumors! and yes EXODUS(US) is also present. "Road Hog" is really speed with vocals quite Rock n Roll on the chorus, I think of ZOETROPE(US) here "Amnesty" LP era and RAVEN(UK) on "Rock until you Drop" era. "Riots in the Street" has something ala FEAR IRANIANS FROM HELL(US) on its chorus, those notes quite Surf Rock/Blues in the vein of DUANE EDDY(US) , impressive! Excellent release to thrash the unthrashable, thrash to kill! MASTER FURY(US) - Circle of Hate 1989, even though they kept being raw in their sound, music. They developed a little softer side that made me think of HEATHEN(US) , of course not that polished, but seems they were trying to achieve something a little bit different. In fact Don Rouze (bass) switched places for vox in this release with Luigi Frascella (guitar) . This is a more plain Thrash Metal that I would not remark as much as their first MLP , I found the omoniumous track is pretty killer . These couple of releases are to be found on a reissue by Contaminated Tones Productions in 2013 (I had no clue about it) , so if you see it around you know what you must! Thank mediocridad for sharing these ones! BLOOD ANGEL(Sgp) - In evil we trust demo 1992, shitty mp3. This band was introduced to me by my friend Victor SOS , and I instantly thought "fukkk... Metal Attack from Bolivia's main influece is this!!!" , despite the differences I clearly think of them on "Raw to the Core" track, if you don't believe me you are deaf! This demo is 6 tracks of pure fast deathrashcore/black metal bomb with few melodies here and there. The connection with ABHORRER(Sgp) is subtle, mainly in sound terms and few ideas. "The unholy god" is a fukin black hate vomit , "Death to posers" is restless anger and will take you to INSULTER(Bra) , "Raw to the Core" beginning sounds as if it were a track from SLOD(Yug) mutating into what I said regarding METAL ATTACK(Bol) , when I reviewed the bolivian insanebastards I mentioned "Deathcrush" MLP, so here, due to transitivity, I can appreciate the same vibe up to a certain extend. "C.O.V." comes with some loose notes quite HM-ish making it sound melodic but not awfully, until it falls into superfast brazilian aggression, which is kept during the next track "In evil we trust" , here I also feel some ressembles to CURRICULUM MORTIS(Per) mainly the sound recording used in the peruvian hardcore compilation named "Atropello" (probably the same in "Sentencia de Muerte" and due to the dubbing it has something little bit different and more noisy). "Regret" is the last track on this demo following the same tune, yeah, and vox took me to DEATH YELL(Chl) . Tracks are not too lenghty nor too short, and screamings are impressively sung as this was a Hardcore band, this exposes hate, real hate. I really liked this demo and now I know why it was shown to me. Recommended for archeodeathrashers! some trader out there with this one!? please send me an email! MALHAVOC(Can) - Age of the dark reinassence demo 1986, dubbed tape. Never heard of them before. The progression of this band is totally weird, the stuff released after this demo is awful and going more and more into the industrial ways of music, puaj!!! Well, to the point now, "Age of the dark reinassence" begins with a greatly obscure and horror-like environment, passing through a BLACK SABBATH(UK) -ish riffing to fall in some other dark notes, culminating this good intro, putting you in the mood. "Urbain Grandier" shows the more thrasher aspects of this, as if it were a SODOM(Ger) 's "Proselytism Real" tune melting into MESSIAH(Swi) with vocals really weird, noisy I must say ala NECROPHAGIA(US) even on the used samples and later riffs, the whole production is impressive, does not sound like demo but like an album. "Night Cry" again shows that face of horror with its guitar sounds, these are really well done but honestly I prefer music much more than these sounds, so boring... here you understand why their forthcoming steps were the ones taken... "Meridiana" closes the A side on this, again I repeat myself, this sounds like "Anarchus" from MESSIAH mixed with Killjoy's vox , quite a solid mixture, I never thought something like these two ways of doing music could ever be put together in a band. Side B opens with "Arythmia", more noise damn it... then "Attack of the sepulcher" at last some drums and thrash riffs fuk! Now I hear MEFISTO(Swe) -like stuff with drums just like Peso from NECRODEATH(Ita) then on solos you get the piece of CELTIC FROST(Swi) that I knew I would hear on a project like this, and due to the rest of the mentioned bands I would say is more like DESEXULT(Dnk) . "The Storm" is more, I bet you can guess now, yes... noise... "Fey" has a great beginning ala "Matter Tenebrarum" mixed with more MESSIAH, great track . Finally "Dunwich Horror" to expose their ambient aesthethics, fully DESEXULT NECROPHAGIA inspired. This demo would be excellent if it weren't for the amount of boring and lengthy noises used between the real tracks, what a pity. This is hugely recommended for hystorical purposes, since it's from Canada, from the golden years with hell of potential (thrown to the trash later). Anyway, if I were you, If you don't know the projects I mentioned on this review, I highly recommend you to listen to those first, because those were around years before this release and, in my opinion, much better. Thanks Victor SOS once again for the recommendation, it's quite hidden and particularl project! APOSTASY(Chl) - Fraud in the name of god demo 1989, dubbed one. Never enjoyed this project but this demo kills. "The night" jumps in with a swedish-inspired guitar distortion that screams NIHILIST(Swe) but then your brains are smashed with vocals rippingly clean followed with great dark screams in chorus and SEPULTURA(Bra) / KREATOR(Ger) -ish tremolos, sometimes vocals even ressembles to Leonardo Loriente from the local ambassadors of deathrash, ANGKOR VAT(Ury) . "Intro" a classical arpeggio guitar, then "Deceased in the Funeral" which made me think, somehow, in "Holy Diver" due to some first riffs, then changes into a demented doomish death soon to explode into thrash, am I too wrong if I mention LEGACY(US) as an influence? Finally "Fraud in the name of god" , I admit this is not for the typical thrashers, because vocals are not in the norm, but that's part of what makes this original, on this track you can hear some SLAYER(US) meets KREATOR(Ger) ideas , the arrangements are great and also made me think of NECROPHILIAC(Arg) , the drumming speed on double bass kicks shines from time to time demonstrating the qualities of it, I guess it even reminds me of KORZUS(Bra) . Highly recommended demo for anyone looking for this kind of unique-on-its-way recording. SAVIOUR(Chl) - Call from Bellow 1993. Tape by Infernal Overkill Productions. Totally unknown to me, these are practitioners of Death Metal in the 90s vein with a foot on some 80s DEATH(US) , vocals seem totally inspired by Barney Greenway or Kam Lee . This project also counts on great arrangement between the two guitars and some mid-tempo drumming that can take you to BENEDICTION(UK) . I don't know what else to add on this one, little intents of MORBID ANGEL(US) too, these demo is composed by "Saviour Devourer", "Memories of a spirit sentenced" and "Diabolical Baptism" , three tracks that will please any deather around. Thanks Animal for this one, highly appreciated! SOOTHSAYER(Can) - demo 1986, tape. Believe it or not, I gave them a try some times and never felt too much hooked by them. This time I was really impressed by myself why the fuk that happened to me? because this is in the very vein of SACRIFICE(Can) , high screams are identically ripping mad, love them, as soon as it begins I would scream "Necronomicon" !! as it if were SACRIFICE itself, or even "Turn in your grave" on later screams, first riff is just SLAYER(US). I have a couple of ideas why that happened, may be, I step on their first LP, which is too much crossover for my tastes, two, their tracks are not that long, but this does not make too much sense to me, so I am going to claim it was just pure poserism from my side. This demo is really good, its titles are "Death Radiation" violently killer, "Troops of hate" with solos with pretty similar sound to BLOOD FEAST(US) 's ones, "Kill Oppression" including some vox ala Patrick Ranieri from HELLWITCH(US) on their track "Purveyor of Fear" and even SADUS(US) , "Build the Terrorism" with a solo mimicking some SLAYER(US) in their track 'The Antichrist' "THE ONLY WAY TO TAKE CONTROL IS TO BE A REAL TERRORIST!!!" just fuktastik!!! and "Deadly Fear" really HC ala CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER(US) , all tracks equally great. This would be a mixture between SACRIFICE and AGGRESSION(Can) due to its hardcore influences here and there, and of course LETHAL PRESENCE(Can) cannot be out of this combo. Highly recommended for ignorant fuks like myself! X-CRETA(Bel) - Patronizing the Heterodox 1986. Total unknown to me, these guys deliver a disturbing Hardcore mixed with Thrash Metal with influences coming from ACCUSED(US) and BULLDOZER(Ita) . "David slays Golliath" is its violent openning. "Exaggerated" keeps the vibe with its rollercoaster of speed, fast, slow and punky rythms, few guitars ala FEARLESS IRANIANS FROM HELL(US) . "Destructive Outfit" made me think a little bit of THE EXECUTE(Jpn) while "The Law of Gravitation" took me to CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER(US) on their "Life in grave" demo, totally northamericandeathrashy with punk. Upto now I realise the vocals not only ressembles to AC wild's but also to the classical German Thrash Metal approach, for instance SODOM(Ger) , DEATH ROW(Ger) , and on... "The Wild One" reminded me of the HC style excecuted by MOTTEK(Ger) on their "Hypnoze" LP . "Oblivion" keeps demonstrating their obscure HC approach with its crunchy guitars and tremolos here and there, it gets weird when suddenly the track stops, like as if it was splitted in halves. "The Heterodox" if this were super fast I would say the first riff could have been done by THE UNSANE(US) , I guess this band at 45rpm sounds like them ha! by the way, this is an instrumental track. "Talks about morality" once more showing their punk side influenced by the UK school , "you really got me" phrase is impossible not to relate them with THE KINKS (UK) . "X-creta Banzai Mosh" closes this homogenous release of HC/THRASH/PUNK music. Thanks again Victor sos for this recommendation!! MISSION OF CHRIST(Can) - Silence in Grave Demo 1987, dubbed tape. This band is quite complex to associate with others because is a huge mixture among so many bands. For instance at first listen I thought of CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER(US) (impossible to avoid since this demo title is almost identical to CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER's one) plus MINOR THREAT(US) plus AGGRESSION(Can) plus KREATOR(Ger) plus EXCRUCIATION(Swi) some METALLICA(US) may be some VOIVOD(Can) and RAYDEAD(Aut) ... what a mixture ah? this band even mimicks an intro ala VENOM(UK) and some other riffs but while beering at this very moment is quite hard to think exactly were those come from, sorry folks. Expect a Thrash Metal Hardcore here! Thanks Victor Ruiz for the enlightening! AGGRESSOR(Pan) - Call from the Crypt Demo 1990. dubbed tape. Thanks to the Panamenian documentary previously reviewed here, I ended up knowing there was another AGGRESSOR in Panama, as soon as I finished watching the documentary, I wrote down their name in order to get their demo whenever possible, because this was labeled as Deathrash. From its very beginning, you won't be able to ignore the amazing pressence of the bass, riffs are really thrash metal and the vocals are making their way into Death Metal. Even though this has a total rehearsal sound, it's clear and you can recognize what it is being played, in "Prepare to die", riffs are inspired mostly by KREATOR(Ger) in "Endless Pain" era, some vocals rythms reminded me of POSSESSED(US) in "Death Metal" and when the word "Kill" appears took me to RANCID DECAY(US) "love to destroy" track, with traces of DEATH(US) in "Scream bloody Gore" LP. "Screams of Terror" now shows influeces on SLAYER(US) in "Chemical Warfare" track and in the middle of the track I feel "Yog Sothoth" from POISON(Ger) kind of rythms, in fact, they sound like them on their early recordings, no doubt. "War is Hell" has great bestial drummings with doublebasskicks killerly fast, this track has much more rythm changes and pretty smart ones, still keeping the POISON's vibe, I am honestly impressed. "Total extermination" was left to close, man the bass is impressively a punching ripping fist! When on first riff now you can hear that deathrash tremolo I was waiting for, later to be followed by typical Thrash Metal from SEPULTURA(Bra) . What to say? This together with CARAS DE HAMBRE(Pan) are the best projects one could listen to from that hidden country. This demo, if it had just a little bit of better mixing/production, would be astonishingly competitive with the rest of their time underground contemporary counterparts around the world. In the end a fukin fantastic demo, I would say a mixture between DARKESTHRASH(Ury) and POISON , you can even hear an arpeggio guitar at the end ressembling to "Sphynx" track he he. Hugely recommended for those willing to get their piece of raw deathrash! Infinitely grateful to Raul, you kill beyond killness!! ENSLAVER(Pan) - Degradation demo 1991, dubbed. AGGRESSOR(PAN) evolved into this project, they changed name, also their style, now it's totally Death Metal oriented, typical from that era. The thing is, the music ideas are somehow quite complex, unique and beyond the established Northamerican/Swedish styles, it seems they downtuned the guitars nearer to what the UK vein was doing, BOLT THROWER(UK) or CARCASS(UK) and some things here and there in the vein of DVC(US) and I cannot avoid thinking of DEICIDE(US) on some tremolos, and DEATH(US) on somber parts with little NIHILIST(SWE) ideas too, may be even some CADAVER(NOR) . Of course the evolution is quite notorious since this sounds much better than the previous recordings with AGGRESSOR. This recording is not bad at all, has some remarkable ideas that try to push beyond the boundaries of the well known bands from the time, the thing is, I cannot be honest with this since I am bored of this crunchy DM style from the 90s, leaving their Thrash Metal influences behind, slowed them down, removed the aggression and got focused on skills, weird-tempo changes, better sound and darkness, in my mind, I need that thrash part that expulses the insanity/rebelion/anger within. The demo count on 4 tracks, "Limited by the Cell", "Deadly Reign" , "Into the Avernus/Degradation" and "Voodoo Doll". For those into 90s DM, you'll definitly get an encounter with an extreme metal project inspired by the classics adding their own touch on the top, not being super unique but somehow identifiable. Recommended for anyone interested in extreme metal projects from latinamerica for sure. CALIGULA(US) - Technical Aggression 1987 demo, RE by the excellent label, Ripping Storm Records. "The killing of time" is its intro, "Crippled Youth" total Thrashing Metal from US in all its words, I find connections to DARK ANGEL(US) with a totally present bassist and its vocalist also seems to be in that line too, ala Don Doty with almost mimicking the Tom Araya's way of fast pronunciations at times, thought of BURNT OFFERING(US) with no hessitation, pretty good track. "Paralysis" starts with a short arpeggied guitar intro, then gets thrashed, includes some cuts ala SLAYER(US) too with great double kicks on drums. "Euthanasia" has some good parts and some that are not. "Caligula" closes this tape, great riffs on its beginning, more agression and DARK ANGEL vibe here, mixed rythms and outstanding bass/drummings arrangements, the vocals rythms are quite weird though. In fact you can connect this vocalist with his previous more Speed Metal project named DEATHRASH(US). I recommend this for US thrash addicts. VIOLENT NOIZE(US) - #2 1986. This fanzine is written killerly with a great approach on focusing on the best of the best during that time. Interviews are weirdly ordered at times with quotation marks instead of the typical questions-answers , I think it's because those were not formally ints but may be face-to-face comments, sometimes made it hard to follow. Anyway here you will find excellent info about WEHRMACHT(US) , SACRIFICE(Can) , AGGRESSION(Can) , TERMINAL DEATH(US) , INSANITY(US), DEATH(US) plus reviews. Highly recommended. CULT OF STEEL(Chl) - #1 2023 ? , this is a spanish-written chilean A5 fanzine not focused on any particular subgenre but in every sphere of metal, from heavy to black. Lots of small and not too precise reviews and short interviews. I enjoyed the followings: INSECURITY(Chl) , NECRORIPPER(Chl) , POLTERGEIST(Chl) and FOSA (Chl) . I liked it's fully exposing local bands across their land, and was nice to see some of the great names there like UNHALLOWED(Chl) and BLACK BEAST(Chl) . My only recommendation, they should have included release date and city, I bet this is not from santiago, but I can be wrong. Great work for its size, 16 pages, and I am sure they don't expect being an in-depth fanzine but a promotion-like one. Good one to check, hopefully this will improve for future releases, this was just their good beginning. This should be promoted outside their lands around latinamerica for sure!
What to say... I lost another of my friends, my dog ïA, she was the last chapter of my book, she was my re-living childhood, and the beginning of my return to shangrilá. May the earth embrace such a beautiful, innocent and protective creature. Forever immortalized in my finite brains, at least this time I could say goodbye, I stared at your fading life with my heart full of pain and gratitude, I will surely miss you. The vomit of these extensive months: CARNAL DECAY(Rus) - The Fumes of Shrivelled Mass 1993 tape. This is a Russian Death Metal project, even though it starts with a couple of tracks that has nothing to do with the genre, the third track "Malignant Haemorrhage" begins to expose their ideas ala CARCASS(UK) with some DEMILICH(FIN) , DISGORGE(Mex) -ish growls. The weird sound used on the snare makes it quite interesting and the sound of the guitar is also interesting because it's clearly russian, probably similar to DEATH VOMIT(Rus) , sometimes even at the edge of the Swedish-Greek ways. The rest of the tracks are "Explotation of the rancid Flesh" , "The Fumes of Shrivelled Mass" and "Deceased Flesh" which is an spectacular outro ala KRÜGER(Rus) . Interesting for historical purposes, I had no idea about this project. Thanks again den! NASTY SAVAGE(US) - Wage of Mayhem 1984 Demo, RE by Headsplit Records on tape in 2019. I always overlooked this band mostly because their first LP is too weird for my tastes and the guitars are not my kind of beer. I was encouraged by my friend joakill not to ignore this demo anymore, so I did listen to it and indeed is a fukin 4-tracks demo totally super. "Unchained Angel" is great. "Savage Desire" kills and the "Witches Sabbath" is the top-track on this demo, its chorus is just brilliant and I feel this is a faster and more metallic version of WITCHFYNDE(UK), and lastly "XXX" track which closes the demo. The label properly included some live gigs to take advantage on tape length but the extra tracks not part of the demo are not as remarkable as the demo itself. Anyways this is a fukin killer recording that needs to be part of your tapes, hugely recommended. KAMP (Dnk) - Kamp EP 10'' by Messe Noir 2019. This is an excellent and totally original fast Heavy Metal. NWOBHM influences crossed with a VOIVOD(Can) -ish vein are kind of their style. These are four tracks that will totally blow you away from the fancy shit of the 21st century, side A is "Schtmf" and "Heavy Metal Holocaust" with some IRON MAIDEN(UK) -ish intro, while side B is "Freezing Death" and "Heavy Metal Freedom". And yes, being Heavy Metal the guitars will rip you apart along with the simple but great vocal tune that even reminds to MOTOSIERRA(Ury) at times. Highly recommended! EXORCIST(Pol) - Voices from the Graves demo 1987. If you are looking for some quite technical, raw and polish Speed/Thrash Metal act, well this will totally suit your needs. Having 4 tracks, "Last Priest" , "Seven gates of Hell" , "Pile Driver" and "Nun's Sabbath" , you get embraced by the polish sound and attitude, even though they differ in music style, the environment produced on this demo reminds me of "Into the Darkness" by SLAUGHTER(Pol) and even though their music isn't that fast, the vocals are deeper than what one could expect, adding something more agressive and dark to the whole. On the other hand, music took me a little bit to SECOND HELL(Hol) , while "Seven Gates of Hell" takes you to SLAYER(US) too in a much rawer version. The melodies used on some riffs and solos seem totally influeced by Heavy Metal making the whole demo really dynamic. Atypical and great demo totally audible despite being raw. EXORCIST(Pol) - After the North Winds 1988. Fuk... you won't believe this is the very same project. The only thing I connect this recording with the previous demo is that you can easily identify some essence on the guitar riffs mostly on the Speed/Thrash approach, and it's obvious since aggressor, the guitarrist, was there again with his axe, the vocalist is fukin great and you will totally think of AGRESSOR(BRA) on "Kill or Die" demo and I think including the music, this could be connected to "Last Judgement" by EXCRUCIATION(Swi) . This has only two tracks surrounded by intro and outro, "After the North Winds" and "Resurrection", both excellent. These two demos were released by the top quality label Thrashing Madness on CD in 2017, with a great extensive insert with interview, photos, few lyrics and comments from other members of the underground scene in Poland. If I were you, I would not doubt on getting this one. This was closed by a couple of instrumental tracks recorded in the 90s, fuk these are exellent, a mixture of SLAYER(US) and DESTRUCTION(Ger) , why the fuk didn't they recorded this with screams shit!!! Then a couple of extra live recordings were added, one from 1988 gig and a couple more from 1987, the "Nun's Sabbath" live in 88 sounds that killer I cannot believe why they did not record a whole demo that way! it's excellent, totally killer! Then "Last priest" is also outstanding, 1987 live, these couple of live recordings totally expose how much devastating this act was in the past, again, spectacular live registers for this band! ABADDON(Chl) - From the dark of our minds 1993, demo tape by Australis Records. Unknown to me, this is a Death Metal project influenced by the classics from US during the end of the 80s beginning of the 90s , so I found similarities in sound and composition to what the DISINTER(Per) guys did back then, some sharp screams also reminded me to BELIAL(Chl) . I am not going to say this is for vein-cutting activities but is not bad either, it has some originallity . If you are into this kind of death metal, you will definitely enjoy this recordings. This pro tape is superbly done with a really extense insert, apart from that, it counts on some interesting things that give them some identity, but is hard to say with closed eyes this comes from Chile. SIJJIN(Ger) - Summerian Promises LP 2021, RE 2022 Tenebrae Records, spectacular Death Metal in the vein of SADISTIC INTENT(US) , MORTEM(Per) , MORBID ANGEL(US) and surely POSSESSED(US) . The artwork and the name of the album depicts nothing more than a black metal project but fuk... I was totally wrong, this is fukin excellent, some riffs are too MORID ANGEL, "Hunting the lizard" even ressembles in ideas to "Day of Suffering" (instrumental), but has more violence on vocals on each track, which makes it really appealing. Don't even hessitate on getting this tape because is fukin great, even though one could think of a clone, has some extra fresh sounds and super killer skilled fukin guitars. I wish this tape had included the lyrics, seem quite interesting, those are about summerian shit as you may have noticed by the name of the album. EVIL BLOOD(Cro) - Midnight in Sodom 1988 demo, bootleg. This is a Speed/Thrash/Heavy Metal act coming from Croatia, I got into this thanks to the "Empire of Death" reissue on CD, which is awfully remastered and the sound on digital drums are that disgusting I will have to be quite patience to see if I can cope with it. In the meantime, I found a rip from this demo and gave it a try, just to get rid of that bad taste. This demo has a real drummer, raw sound and killer rythm mixture. At first glance you can think instantly of METALLICA(US) but on each listen to this you will find more stuff under the surface, like VIOLENT FORCE(Ger) , SODOM(Ger) , SLAYER(US) and VENOM(UK) . This rip seems to come from the LP version reissued by Buried by by time and dust Records, which includes three tracks from the other mentioned demo, but here lacks of that ugly remasterization, even though you hear the shitty fake drums, the sound is much better, in fact I could even enjoy the riffs, "Kill with Napalm" reminds me to BLACK DETHE(US) on "Mary's Blood" demo. I totally recommend this recordings! Thanks Vic SOS for your enlightning! EJECUTOR(Chl) - Muerte... El orgasmo de la vida 2022 LP, by Trauma Records from Colombia. Well this is a project I have seen live on a rehearsal room in Santiago de chile years ago under the spells of alkohol on a rehearsal room somewhere along with BLACK BEAST(Chl) . Even though I remember the fukin great and fast drumming during that time, I never had the chance to get anything from them neither was interested, I am not into this kind of blackened thrash metal sung in Spanish language (I have few classic exceptions) . Playing this release my mouth was shut with a spiked-punch, as soon as this starts, after the introduction, when you listen to the lyrics, the expressions on the vocalist (who is also the drummer!) and its production, you realise this is definitely a South American release in the Southamerican terms, due to my ignorance on this matter, I think I can only relate it to the Colombian ultra metal scene like SACRILEGIO(Col) , REENCARNACION(Col) , MASACRE(Col) , PARABELLUM(Col) and the likes, here and there on few tremolos I associated some ideas coming from the Death metal sphere, like DEATH(US) , and AUTOPSY(US) on slow parts (bass sounds in that vein), which could connect in some ways with FORCE OF DARKNESS(Chl) too, even on its Speed Metal parts. I know this band is well known in the underground but if there are some mongoloids like me out there, you should definately try this album. Thanks leo for inviting me to your archive! Cheers & congrats on this release!! Cheers to Jesus too! BURIED(Chl) - I won't stay dead EP 2020 by Putrid Prods on 7". Coming from chile this is not what I was expecting, but isn't bad either, the thing is, is not fresh at all, just another band coming from the bunch of north-american death metal influenced bands that don't make it far beyond than that, vocals are good, ala Martin van Drunen mixed with Chris Reifert and Chuck . Having such a great putrid deathrash metal roots in their country, is a pity they fall in such an over used resources, the best is the organic sound as if it were taken from a live session. Thanks pelado ( BLACK BEAST(Chl) ) for the gift! L.S.N.(US) - Fall to the Reich 1986 Demo. only a bloody mp3... shit! I read about it on the Blowing Thrash #3 1986 and I was curious enough to give them a try, 4 tracks of furious Thrash Metal full of hatred speed and bowels vomit , at first sounds as if it were METALLICA(US) plus DAMNAKLEEZ(US) BLOODFEAST(US) and later goes right into the very vein of RANCID DECAY(US) in "Slaguhterhouse" track plus, of course, some DARK ANGEL(US) and even DISARM(Jpn) , yes that b-side lost-in-time recordings, great demo I must put on my wishlist for anyone willing to share/trade this killer recordings. MORTUARY(Mex) - Where Death takes your Soul 1988 demo, dubbed. As far as I know, I always ignored this band due not to finding their LP much interesting, too plain and lacked of ideas. But this demo presented a more south american approach inspired by SEPULTURA(Bra) Morbid Visions era mixed a little bit with KREATOR(Ger) , including vocals a little bit more deep which one could say they were indeed approaching to the death metal ways, in fact the environment of the demo reminded me of NECROPHILIAC(Spa) in a live demo, part of Xtreme Recs compilation. This four track demo alternates vox between the bassist joel, and the guitarrist pedro, I must say joel had a killer and chaotic screams that can be appreciated on "Sacrilegious" track at its beginning. In the end a killer demo, not too original but the productionless and simplistic approach in music is by far much more interesting than what I previously checked from them. Thanks joakill for the trade. PAGANFIRE(Phi) - Of Deathlands and Bloodsoaked Paths 2019, by Morbid Ways to Die Records. These philipino-guys speed-switch was finally turned on, these realease, in my opinion is the best they have achieved, it's not dull, it's not slow, it lacks of those ugly cuts on guitars we all hate, and rips your face with its chaos and their astonishing solo works plus vocals effects (those seem quite original and made me think of SCHIZOPHREIA(Bel) kind of effects). Here you will encounter a pretty good mixture among SEPULTURA(Bra) , KREATOR(Ger) and Ingo's kind of screams! ( NECRODEATH(Ita) , the intro even reminds to "Matter Tenebrarum" 's one ) . Really good brazilio-italian mixture , some Chilean deathrash too ala DRENCROM(Chl) or EVIL MADNESS(Chl) ; may be that could even be just Philipinian. Highly recommended for those looking for great underground music, they do not need introduction, but for those who need it, these words are good for a deathrash-intake! Cheers erik, thanks for this and greetings Nonoy! MAJESTY(US) - Bestial Vomit 1987 demo + Demo II 1987, bootleg tape. This is Oscar García, the well known icon of grindcore death metal who formed NAUSEA(US) and TERRORIZER(US). This is in the line of early MASTER(US) , the intro seems the same one used by NECROPHAGIA(US) on their track "Ancient Slumber" , I had no idea this was reissued on CD honestly, but I remember pretty good times with my friend bruno listening to TERRORIZER and digging a little bit further what happened before those aforementioned big projects, in fact, I think we got the bootleg split CD from them, once we traveled together to buenos aires to get our reissue of MORBID BLOOD(Ury) on tape. Killer memories, we were into "Purity Dillution" from DEFECATION(US) and even were willing to do a project in all this vein both of us only, he was going to be bruno harris and I federico harris HA! ... anyway, another project quite hidden as MAJESTY, is UNKNOWN DEATH(US), also from Oscar, this one, I am still missing a good rip/dubbed tape, please let me know if you want to trade it, in fact, yes I used their monicker as one of my pseudonims in the underground he he, I liked the music but the monicker sounds just fantastic. In Demo II you can hear a little bit more REPULSION(US) 's on the vocal mainly, it's more ripping. I think this recordings are good to know if you are curious about the development of NAUSEA & TERRORIZER activities. Pure mid tempo deathgrind! ERONYMOUS(Sgp) - Surrender unto Evil 1991 demo, dubbed. This is a real invitation to surrender into evilness. As soon as the vocals vomits, I could not avoid linking this to DEATHLY SCYTHE(Chl) , the vocalist's tune is extremely similar, in fact, I happened to relate this demo with their "Celestial Darkness" MLP . In the rest you find that typical brazilian influences from that era , the omonimous track is a little bit more chaotic so pretty good one, seems from another recording session but I am still not totally sure. "Rising of the darkness" keeps in the same line as their first track, but suddenly a fast IRON MAIDEN(UK) riff appears done in tremolo-ish ways hahaha , is it from "Trooper"? kind of wierd due not sounding too obscure like the rest, the great vocal works allow you to ignore that fact anyway. "Bring the heavens down" is much more into that blackened atmosphere provided by the helenic ways, even after those common blackmetalish riffs a good rythm followed by a great bass line reminds me to DEATH COURIER(Gre) . With all these in mind, you know you will get a great demo to listen. Recommended. Thanks joakill for the trade. CORPSE GRINDER(Chl) - Distracted or Evil demo 1990. RE 2021 by Connuctione Incesta Records. This is a four-tracks demo in the vein of early Grindcore acts like NAPALM DEATH(UK) , CARCASS(UK) and I would mention BENEDICTION(UK) on their most death metal riffs and some palm-muted riffs takes you to MASSACRE(US) (yes, where one can think this monicker comes from) and even some ATOMIC AGGRESSOR(Chl) , on their last track "Decay" you can even feel little SEPULTURA(Bra) mostly on vox. This isn't one of the best recordings from Chile but is good to know, the label did an excellent work on its insert, the reissue is totally professional with serigraphied tape. IN AGGRESSION(Chl) - An extensive Aberration Demo 1989, RE Soul Repear 2020 on tape. This is a Death/Thrash Metal band not remarkable for their speed but for some of their guitar-works and the vocalist's tune, which ressembles to a mixture among DARK ANGEL(US) 's Don Doty , CELTIC FROST(Swi) 's Tom Warrior and CHAKAL(Bra) 's in "Abominable Anno Domini". At some points one also can think of DARKNESS(Chl) . It's a good project to know. When the second track "Fatricide" starts, one realises SEPULTURA(Bra) 's "Schizophrenia" was one of their sources of inspiration, not only in terms of compositions but in terms of production, being a little bit more obscure on tremolo parts though. Side B with "Desmaterialized for Intoxication" 's end I could think of POSSESSED(US), and even at vocals level, "Genetic in Extreme" also demonstrates this influence at guitar rythms, which is pretty well done . Another properly desecrated demo from the old times, great insert plus serigraphied chromo tape with an excellent sound. I wonder how their first demo sounds... anyone has it? CLAUSTRO(Chl) - Demo 1 1991 , RE 2024 by Soul Reaper on tape. Another well done exhumation. This is a project I haven't heard of before, this demo is pretty raw and amateurish as stated by the biography included in the insert, but with really dynamic rythms and melody changes, solid ideas and each member show certain skilled capabilities on each track. I can be wrong but I can think of ABSIDE(Ury) , the only project coming to my mind listening to this. Vocalist is in the vein of DEATH YELL(Chl) 's and ANARCHUS(Mex) 's and few rythms on guitars, mainly on the track "Paradise in hell" made me think of a faster TREBLINKA(Swe) . I must admit this demo twisted my brains, probably because being at the edge of musical realms I don't dig too much. CLAUSTRO(Chl) - Demo 2 1991, RE 2024 by Soul Reaper on tape. This is clearly an step forward in terms of production and skills. The essence it's the very same you get on their previous demo, but the vocals are more Death Metal oriented, I would say they are almost mimicking Anton from PENTAGRAM(Chl) , but a little bit deeper, anyway this music is more melodic, in fact in the beginning of "Of terror and Hate" track I felt some ala VARATHRON(Gre) kind of slow melodies, on "Infected World" intro too. This demo confirms that the project itself was surrounding the more melodic aspects of the typical Death Metal approach from the time, but in a quite early stage. Best tracks are "Death Ecology" , "Infected World" and "Power of the dark". Тяжёлый День(Rus) - В полёт 1987 , LP by Мелодия . USSR Heavy Metal in the very vein of classics like JUDAS PRIEST(UK) but, even though you recognize tons of influences, ends up being quite original, comparable with the live recordings of Клиника(Rus) or Старый Город(Rus) , in that way, but not falling into cloning. LED ZEPPELIN(UK), ACDC(Aus), DEEP PURPLE(UK) , JEFF BECK(UK) are the most notorious influences, even some PINK FLOYD(UK) . At first, I thougth it was quite boring and not that fast project, but ended up really enjoying this recording. Anyone willing to get a copy of this one, should do it since it's still pretty cheap. By the way the monicker translates into Hard Day. SABBAT(Jpn) - Sabbatical Blasphemous Gospels 2012, by Rawblackult Productions. Excellently done compilation of the first five 7" released by these japanese masters ordered chronologically! No more words needed for this masters of obscure vomits. Buy it if you have the chance! HELLAVENGER(Chl) - The Primordial Fire CD 2024 by El Abismo Records & Holycaust. This is one of the most awaited albums in the underground circle since their previous advance tape, which totally kills, also reviewed/distributed by myself in the past. The whole art & aesthethics has been perfectly preserved, thanks to the astonishing art done by "Made in Darkness" artist, whoever you are, you are the master of black arts! This insane person kept the music hand in hand with the art, I needed to spare some words on it because it is devastating. "Intro: Enter the cold darkness" opens this masterpiece, giving place to "The Forbidden Shrine" who was part of the advance tape but this time with hell ov an outstanding quality, in terms of sound and excecution, here you appreciate the remarkable "The Dead" 's drumming skills, which at times made me think BLACK BEAST(Chl) too, mostly in fast tupatupa's but his snare and toms works are from beyond!! "Hellavenger"'s vox is fukin exquisite , Tom G -ish , Cronos-ish ,etc super classic, I would love a little bit more almost-clean vox used previously, this time are more obscure, but it's killer anyway. The solo works are perfect and sound identical to what I already heard, totally impressive, again by "Mr. Armageddon" 's axe. "Interlude: The call of the Evil Spirits" prepares the bonfire for "Gleam of a dark summoning" being doomish they perfectly used tons of arrangements between drums (killer fast double bass kick) plus bass along with great complete guitars which later explode into tremolo-ish-n-solo chaos, immediately followed by "Sacrilegious Rites" with a cut ala BULLDOZER(Ita) is excellent, really speedy, soon to be mixed with agression and black power, it also uses a pretty overused resource by most VENOM(UK) worshippers, a cut and vox phrases, but thanks to the original vocal tune totally dark and agressive, along with the rest of the instruments, fits perfectly, I could also heard some rythm and phrases ala OMEGA(Gre) from their "Second coming Second Crucifixion" album, the track "Black Metal Rust" rings the bell. "Interlude: Triumph of the Beast" tunes you into , in my opinion, their absolute total mayhemic top killer track "Consecration of Doom" which yes has some excellent mimicks reminding HELLHAMMER(Swi) on their "Apocalyptic Raids" release, totally rising the kingdom of Death!!! I cannot believe this could be rerecorded and improved. "Sempiternal Terror" has a pretty Speed Metal riff but with a total obscure aura being quite a unique track on itself, once again the vocals are fukin remarkable, I can also think of CRUEL FORCE(Ger) here , probably CRUCIFIXION(Aus) and also HEFESTO(Ury) , again, the works in solos are great. "Interlude: Trascending into an immortal glory" accompanions you into whispering "Curses from beyond the Grave" with a VARATHRON(Gre) scales after the first nordic melodies, fuk what a great mixture, the next riffs and the rythm on vocals are really weird and original which end on an unexpected turn demonstrating the smart dynamism used along the whole recording, and don't even try to forbid your gutvomits on the solos, WOW!! As you may have noticed, the whole album used intros, luckily for those who die by anxiety attacks, these are not long and complement the record, you will get a piece of ACHERON(US) 's "Rites of the black mass" thanks to those. This album is above expectations, here HELLAVENGER lies triumphant, forever, in the Iron Legion! BLOWING THRASH(Chl) - Colección 1985-1986 Book - 2023, this is an outstanding fanzine compilation that totally make you vomit over it when you open the first appearing issue.... WTF!?? this crap was totally pixeled!? why the fuk did they do that?!!! okey okey okey... I am going to cut my offense... this is marvellously done apart from that fact... I own a couple of xeroxed issues, and trying to read the unreadable (I am exagerating a little bit) first issue which opens this compilation, was total shit... I stucked with my xeroxed papers... after keeping my mind clean off few pages, I got into the second issue, wait... this starts with an spectacular intro I forgot to mention... then going on with 2nd issue, yes, this one and the 3rd one are correctly printed, these are followed by an spectacular compilation of gig flyers, promo pictures, letters to anton (the one from Azagthoth and his specs on guitar pedals/amps kills!), and so on... impressive work and passion demonstrated in this book. It's awful that you have to really cry on reading the first issue while there are better scans in the underground more than what was really used on this... just a huge crap, but the rest, honestly, for historical purposes, totally worth it. The content besides the issues is fantastic, I wish anton would have added more of his words before each number, just like John Kristiansen did on SLAYER(Nor) book. But anyway, a total must, and more if you never heard of BLOWING THRASH(Chl) fanzine! INSANITY(Chl) - Compilación de sus tres volúmenes 1987-1988 . Another incredible fanzine compilation (I guess one of the bests) . Top quality in every sense. When one observes the amount of underground bands exposed here, you grasp why Chile knew/knows about obscure deathrash metal from the whole world, even at that time they were spreaing lots of obscure projects. Fanzines like this and the predecessor BLOWING THRASH(Chl) there must have been such fukin black bibles back then. To close this , they also included tons of bio's , pictures and flyers that were part of their vault. Impressive. You can appreciate really intersting facts here and there... total mindblowing. I hugely recommend you this book. INRI(Chl) - Completa Exhumación Vol I & II 1989-1991 , another book with these two issues of this fanzine whose author is "Wolfgang" from CORPSE GRINDER(Chl) . I had no idea about the band nor the fanzine, so these was all new for me, an I totally devoured this short but excellent and humble reading. Has lots of short interviews with tons of pretty well known bands but some others I never heard of, ended up being a huge source of chilean-underground-digging. Spectacularly printed on semi-hard-cover on Office size. Hugely recommended for anyone willing to read about their past. Spanish-written , I think this is the first spanish-written metal fanzine exposing an antifascist point of view. Thanks Vic SOS for saving all these for me brother, I owe you a lot!!
"Vomited into life, from the womb of absurd bliss I fell. Inspired by mirrored idiocy, was fed, walk and talk... I do not listen, that is blasphemic intent of un-ingnorant act. By hypocrites, in every sphere of human contact, I absorbed my defiant hatred. Desperately, some trials of extinguishing the burning flame, brutally banished, I cannot force my brains into nonesense, this is what it is, my disgusting existence. But I replicated the recipee, now I am lost, the neverending cycle of consumption spins once more." - by schizophedeath - entitled: The Idiot. EXTREME RESURRECTION FANZINE(Ury) - Issue #7 - yes, you read it well, my fanzine is in the hoven! Soon will be out! I finally managed to do it. Hurray for myself and fuk the rest. YDI (US) - A place in the Sun EP 1983. CDR . Well well well , this is an outstanding HC from US ressembling to some japanese vibe ala CONFUSE(Jpn) plus the MINOR THREAT(US) aggression with a vocalist that can make you think of LEGION OF DEATH(US) and DISCHARGE(UK) . Tracks are short, in your face, but are not unenjoyable short ones. I think this is a great EP that totally deserves being checked, what I found most astonishing was the fact that guitars are all the time on the first strings of the guitar for the chords, or may be the guitar was tuned quite high, don't know. Found this when watching a pretty intense documentary named "American Hardcore" . Check bellow my words surrounding it. SS DECONTROL(US) - The Kids will have their say 1982. CDR. Another one taken from the aforementioned documentary, yes , one of the few that really shocks, these guys play in the vein of MINOR THREAT(US) with more agression in general terms so vocals are stronger. Tracks are too short too but they do not disappoint either. Another good northamerican HC catch. I am not into straight edge but I admit their music is good. SARCASM(Slo) - Crematory 1989, RE 2021 CD by We Bite Records. This is speed metal, totally unknown to me. Never heard of this project before but a friend of mine recommeded it to me and being pre-90s it was impossible to avoid it. I found, it ressembles to BATTLEFIELD(Ger) on the first track "Road Warrior" this one being a little bit more slow but with a similar way of delaying each scream. I believe some riffs are also inspired by what HELLOWEEN(Ger) did on their early recordings, and the vocalist kind of immitates Schmier from DESTRUCTION(Ger) but when "Crematory" track took place and I heard "... warriors from the Universe", it also made me think of RUNNING WILD(Ger) in "Iron Heads" . When "Sarcastic reborn" starts it's pretty obvious these metalheads were skilled and knew what they were doing, the classical music influences are also clear on some scales, what depicts a solid ground for a robust recording. "Thrash Tonight" says "Mad Butcher" between lines, killer track, being more thrash metal it's clear it's the best so far. "The Kruger Story" I think inspired the artwork of this release but it's almost like "Tonight" from TOKYO BLADE(UK) with a kind of MOTLEY CRUE(US) 's vocal tune. "Fate" even though it gets back to the kind of DESTRUCTION 's speed, the rythm on the phrases remind me of Tom G. Warrior and WARDANCE(Ger) came into mind as another project that could be linked to. "Runaway" is the last track on this 1989 album, it gets thrashier for a proper close and if the vocalist were more agressive I would not doubt on saying it's on the edge of Deathrash metal madness, this track beats the album. If we do not let ourselves getting deceived by the tracklist order, I would say this is an average recording and probably that's why it never shined, totally inoffensive music for that era, but on the other hand, coming from Slovenia is something one shouldn't ignore. So It's totally recommended to grab it if on your way. This does not finish here, the label added three bonus tracks recorded in 1988, these are "Fate" which is much better here than on the album, because it's little bit more agressive, and can also be appreciated on "Runaway" too where more SODOM(Ger) from "Obsessed by Cruelty" era are notorious but speed is not as fast as on the album version. The label also listed "The Krueger Story" before these two tracks but was left to the end and includes the "Nightmares on Elm Street" intro but is not as good as ANGKOR VAT(URY) 's one HAHA! Anyway, this track is also better than on the album. For anyone curious on getting something from that location, this is quite good in fact. MORTAL PAIN(Gre) - Mortal Pain EP 1992 by Molo Lave Records. DM in the 90s vein with the greek-scales-touch , I would connect this with MORGOTH(Ger) , ANGEL DEATH(Ita) , CANCER(UK) with a similarity on the vocal tune to Mike Browning on "Thresholds" LP, it also counts on some slow parts making it a little bit doom. I don't find this as an spectacular release but it's quite good and enjoyable, at least to listen to something a little bit different to what I am used to. This is a two tracks EP and those are "Isolated" & "Under the Curse" both tracks equally good in terms of compositions and ideas, it's indeed consistent. If you find it give it a try! DEATH SENTENCE(US) - Before the Slaughter demo 1985, on 7" , this is de "Death is the only way" demo. This is pre- NUN SLAUGHTER(US) , if you listen to this, it's not comparable, here they are totally Thrash Metal and even though Don of the dead is the vocalist, the approach is different. I don't find it impressive but not bad either. This could be related to DESECRATION(US) on their rehearsals era, because the vocals are quite clean but the music is pure Thrash Metal and guitars seem influenced by DARK ANGEL(US) . Expect a rehearsal demo sound, but it's indeed quite clean. NUCTEMERON(Sgp) - The Unexpected 1987-1991 compilation LP by Zzooouhh Records. This compilation is excellent, starts with their first demo from 1988, "Legacy" is a mixture of old SODOM(Ger) , SEPULTURA(Bra) and TERMINATOR(Cze) and the sharp environment is almost ala TORMENTOR(Mex) in their demo era included in "Beholding the endless pestilence" compilation. On "Transitation" you perceive in a clearer way some Brazilian sounds that could be found in ATTOMICA(Bra) or EXPLICIT HATE(Bra) and the environment on "Swirling Blackness" made me think of "The Shinning Pentagram" demo by NECRODEATH(Ita) . "Silent Sorrow" is the last track following the very same line, the whole demo is totally consistent in style. The following tracks are from their second demo, "Demo 2" from 1990. To conclude this excellent compilation, a couple of unreleased tracks from 1991 were added. These are "Nuctemeron" and "Power, freedom, invincible" , luckily this trio did not disappoint, the sound reminded me a little bit of OBSCURITY(Swe) on this recording session, the vocals are in a more Black Metal-ish style and some riffs too, the vocal tune takes me into a Japanese approach and the speed is excellent. Totally recommended item. CENSURA(Ita) - Key of the abattoir demo 1995, not my kind of beer, average Death Metal from the 90s with a mixture of black metal plus an impressive skilled drummer. Nothing else to add on this from my side. METAL LADY(Hun) - Metal Lady 1990, bootleg tape. Heavy metal inspired by JUDAS PRIEST(UK) and ACDC(Aus) with some Speed Metal touches here and there plus some Pop, comparable to Маркиза (Rus) but I would say this is more Metallic. It counts on really strange chorus which made it quite appealing to me when I first go into it, digging in POKOLGEP(Hun) 's frist album and noticing they had a parallel project with a female vox. For those insane by female vox, this is interesting, mostly because of this aforementioned fact, because the whole album is quite on the average with pretty well known riffage and vocal rythms. If this words sound as if this could be your kind of beer, well you should take it! VA (Afr) - The Death of Africa? 1993, originally released by Inhouse Records, is an African compilation. Speaking to my friend carlos (SHP) , requesting him demos from VOICE OF DESTRUCTION(Afr) , he mentioned to me this, in fact I think he did it long ago, but never care about it, now I asked him for this one, just for curiosity. V.O.D. tracks are ok, quite slow, more doomish, I got bored, I felt those were kind of repetitive, but are not bad anyway. Followed by an unknown project to me, ABHORRENCE(Afr) , this is Death metal influenced by the north american way, I kind of enjoyed it but then I read they were christians, so fuk them, the track even talks about jesus HA! RETRIBUTION DENIED(Afr) , this is a Death Metal project, quite fresh to my ears, with some Greek influences, on scales and production, this last reminds me of "His majesty and the Swamp" and bands like SEPTICEMIA(Gre) or even DEATH COURIER(Gre) could be related to, voice tune also reminded me to GODLESS(Gre) (cheers Chris! ). I found this one totally interesting. DEBAUCHERY(Afr) is in charge of closing this compilation, is like an african version of CANNIBAL CORPSE(US) with some mixtures with ENTOMBED(Swe) , I felt it is similar to DYING FETUS(US) on its vibe, not what I was expecting but not bad. To sum up this words, like I always say, compilations are good to know scenes, this one help me knowing at least one intersting project! This is not for everyone, if you want to dig on V.O.D. ; refer to their first release first (I am still missing their demos) , expect 90s Death Metal with some twisted scales and production which makes it quite fresh I must say. JAGUAR(UK) - Power Games 1983 by Neat Records. This is a classical Heavy Metal in the very vein of TANK(UK), WITCHFYNDE(UK), some TOKYO BLADE(UK), IRON MAIDEN(UK) and even some DIAMOND HEAD(UK) plus traces of ANGELWITCH(UK) and BLITZKRIEG(UK) . Best tracks are "Dutch Connection" which is totally in the vein of "Filth Hounds of Hades" , "Out of Luck" is kind of "Lighting to the Nations" , "The Fox" keeps on that vein and I thought of CRUCIFIXION(UK) and little SAXON(UK) too . "No Lies" which has a pretty catchy rythm on the vocals which ressembles to that kind of blues-rock used on ACDC(Aus) 's "High Voltage" by Bonn Scott. "Prisoner" back into the TANK. "Raw Deal" and the closing "Coldheart" . Recommended if you are into these aforementioned projects! RAYDEAD(Aus) - Raydead EP 1991 , by Skuld Releases. This is a more US-Hardcorepunk oriented version of DISARM(Jpn) mixed with DESECRATION(US) , riffs are great, pretty skilled. This counts on "Machine of Arrogance" the openning track which is great. "Never trust the clear Blue sky" is quite twisted, more 90s US-hardcore on it, but it is not that bad. Their lyrics are about pollution, animal torture, shitty society and greedy politicians. Quite good to have around your collection, and it's interesting to me that they come from Austria, this is a cheapo you should get if you see it around. AMERICAN HARDCORE(US) - 2006, This is a documentary explaining the evolution of the genre on USA during the first half of the 80s. Counts on an amazing pile of bands I have never heard of, and the well known ones. The only draw back I perecived is the stupid interview with an asshole in a church. The anecdotes from the ones who were part of the scene during those years are quite good, I think they failed to include more fanatics into their documentary, I mean more people involved in the underground movement, and more women who, as they mentioned, were mostly in charge of the media, which is one of the most important things in the underground, fanzines, pictures,etc... I wish I have seen more of that and a little bit more of its values. Lyrics are notoriously not stupid, so that could be part of the main focus, even though it's mentioned and gives a great context politically speaking, it was not fully covered in my opinion. For those who are as ignorant as I am, this is pretty interesting, and for those who are not, well, give it a try and check it for yourself. RAGING DEATH (US) - #1 (1985) , not the famous LP but a fanzine I did not know. Taking into the account the year it was released, you can expect pure classics, it features bands like CELTIC FROST(Swi) but focuses on german thrash with interviews with DESTRUCTION(Ger) , KREATOR(Ger), IRON ANGEL(Ger), SODOM(Ger) plus some reviews and bios. Pretty good reading plus excellent pictures, great quality. XXX(US) - #14 (1986) , HC focused fanzine, includes a BAD BRAINS(US) interview, a good one with MOTORHEAD(UK) and some others that weren't interesting to me. Not bad, good for punks! SUBURBAN DEATH(Can) - #1 (1989) , this another unknown fanzine to me, coming from Canada, including AUTOPYS(US) average interview with Chris Reifert, excellent in depth interview with DEAD CONSPIRACY(US) , a killer an full of information interview with Frank from NECROPHAGIA(US) but it's focused on his project with the monicker like his nickname KILLJOY(US) , I had no idea he was into some great music mentioned here, outstanding! Rest in gore ! You can also find a short SEPULTURA(Bra) interview and ARMOROS(Can), sadly this was not better being them from Canada too... a short but precise Australian scene Report and a short INCUBUS(US) interview with the brazilian guys that are religious but no one seem to care... The fanzine is pretty good, I wish the scan would have done better because it's totally impossible to print this and make it readable. FORGED BY FIRE AND STEEL(UK) #1 (2020) , Oposed to what I have been used to reading, this is a Heavy Metal oriented fanzine, this is a British special issue. You will find a great in-depth interviews with classic bands from the NWOBHM like JAGUAR(UK) , MILLENIUM(UK) , CLOVEN HOOF(UK) , SPARTAN WARRIOR(UK) , SACRILEGE(UK) , TRAITORS GATE(UK) , among some others. I really enjoyed the way it is written, really humble and the interviewees helped this issue to be complete, coincidentially, each of them provided lots of information. Highly recommended if you are looking for getting more into Heavy Metal classics. Thanks for the trade Nuno! great work!
"Through light descended onto flesh, so I percieve the life of a lazy scumbag. My experience will teach me what I ought not to be, if the eternal loop of dimensional transmutations is the universal law of education and not just condemnation. To my eyes, I am sentenced, but are these really my eyes? Shall my future materialization be part of another perspective? I don't want the answer nor the experience. I have seen enough of this world. I shall return to warn myself: 'not even lifeless living creatures, not even abstract forms of travelers... not even death itself, need to know what lays on that meaningless span of space and time on such a vague, distorted, repellent and odouring planet' , the thing is... I have already failed" - by schizophedeath - entitled: The Fake Traveler. ... Well new flyers will be put on the left of the website; I also attached a new list of trustful maniacs around the globe on the 'legions' section. For now I am only selecting devotees not from bands specifically but labels and fanzines, which in my mind, are the base for a healthy underground circle. If you are in touch with me and don't find yourself on the list, throw me an email, not a stone! JA! What was my criteria for selecting these individuals? Anyone willing to reply a letter, an email and avoiding socialnetworking will make it on the list, that's it. Ask for removal otherwise. Assholes not replying even emails or only establishing communication through webstores or socialnetshit are not recognized by myself as trustful, just easymoneymakers that must be ignored. CHACINA(Bra) - The Blind Man's Buff demo 1990. Released by Sodomistic Rituals and Third Holocaust of Evil on tape. Spectacular tape, this band was totally unknown to me, they come from Amazonas, pretty crazy, I thought there were only ancient civilzations there and not deathrashers ha! Well, this starts with a mediocre riff mimicking METALLICA(US) , which drew my attention because flyer's says "Deathrash band" and guess what, it fades out immediately, they explode into deathrash ferocity few seconds later in the very vein of AGRESSOR(Bra) 's "Kill or Die" with a production that takes you to KRUGER(Rus) 's 1991 demo. I was not expecting such a great demo. This includes 4 tracks plus a BLACK SABBATH(UK) 's cover , "War Pigs" , holy fuk totally weird to hear this cover with clean vox ha! In the end, terrific brazilian desecration! Recommended! Groß phil und steff, vielen Dank für die Tape! III KATEGORIJA(Yug) - Manijak Demo 1985, dubbed tape. This is a fast HC with some Thrash Metal influences. Violent, with an atypical sound on solos, but shares similarities, in sound, with the bands that I am mentioning below. Really good one and MOTORHEAD(UK) influences can be identified here and there. Their last track entitled like the demo, is in the vein of NAPALM DEATH(UK). I recommend this one for anyone curious. I wanted to start on this one for the yugoslavian attack relistenings. III KATEGORIJA(Yug) - xx.08.1986 Demo, This is their second demo with a cleaner sound, great great great solos and improved vox on deep screams. They turned a little bit more into the Metal sphere with more double kick drumming and rock n roll guitars ala MOTORHEAD so the evolution ends up being quite expected. Unluckily this does not have more tracks, it is a pretty good demo. DISTRESS(Yug) - 1985 demo, dubbed tape. Another super killer HC band from this place. Short demo with three tracks but killer ones, begins with the impressive "Igdaja Idjudsteih" and gets followed by "Sutra" , check the killer snare double hit and the guitar sounds at the end, or distorted bass don't know, amazing! this is a remarkable demo. "Posiednjirat" , the last one, even sounds like "Torturadores" from ACIDO(Ury) ! Highly recommended project! SLOD (Yug) - demo 1986 , dubbed tape. This is a deathrash metal project with some black metal environment but totally chaotic almost in the borders of noisy-looping-insanity on guitars with an spectacular macabre vocalist, at some points I think he ressembles to Sakevi from GISM(Jpn) . This is a pretty obscure demo except from last track which is weird as fuk, also "Qué Velocidad" from ATOXXXICO(Mex) rings the bell there. In general terms a pretty excellent demo, with its own identity. May be it could be linked to "Deo Optimo Maximo" from SCARECROW(Pol) . The only drawback I pereceive is the length of the tracks, too short, but killer anyway. Highly recommended. BESTIAL DEATH(Isr) - Suicide of the Immortal demo 1986, RE 2011 on tape by Israhellbanger Records. Excellent desecration of this spectacular demo. Probably the only band I know from this place apart from SALEM(Isr) (the artwork was done by Salem's guitarrist and just remember I never added their demos on my wishlist). What to expect on this? Pure deathrashing puke , this is one of the first recordings I ever listened to when digging chronologically, I lost my opportunity to buy this one on argentina the first time I played there, but almost a decade after that, this was put on my lifepath so I was excited about getting it back then. Its almost-raw sound and distortion makes you think of the ultrametal recordings from Colombia, but the outstanding brutal vocals and the midtempo drumming deliver the brazilian approach; under the surface I think this was mainly influenced by SODOM(Ger) . All tracks kill but b-side with "Nuclear Hell" and "Bestial Death" is an splendid closure, hugely recommended! VOIDD(Jpn) - Premonatry Inscription demo 1990, RE 2022 by Zzooouhh Records. This is a japanese band worshiping swedish Death Metal with some japanese own style ala TRANSGRESSOR(Jpn) . I don't enjoy the vocalist tune, despite that, it does count on some weird phrases, overall the recording is good. For those needing their daily dosis of death metal, I don't find it remarkable, it's ok for historical purposes. VOIDD(Jpn) - Human Atrocity demo 1991, side B of the aforementioned LP. This begins with an awful track, then follows the 90s DM vein. Few tracks are interesting, again, nothing remarkable. DVC(US) - Descendant Upheaval 1989 LP. RE by Steamhammer. This is an spectacular hidden project. Of course is not hidden among archeodeathrashers but for those unknowing the project, this is a Death Metal with an splitted vein, among their technical aspects, be it weird as fuk riffs, drummings, etc... plus a macabre vocalist ala Kingsly Folley from DECEASED(US), Bareny Greenway from BENEDICTION(UK), NAPALM DEATH(US) or even MARTIRE(AUS) in the most saned version of their vocalist, if that could be in some ways possible ha! I think of NOKTURNEL(US), FATAL(US) too and not only on vox but also due to some technical aspects ; the guitar tune comes from UK, you cannot avoid thinking of "In battle there is no Law" by BOLT THROWER(UK) , and yes SACRILEGE(UK) , you can perceive that vibe, groove, feeling and detailed arrangements poping around. Even though I thought this could differ far from what they've done for their previously released demo, it does not, it's partly a clone with few differences on the recording and tracklist. This indeeds needs to be checked by any deather around, is not optional! CARAS DE HAMBRE(Pan) - Anarquía para todos 1989 (Anarchy for everbody), dubbed tape. Since the vocalist sounded as one of the most rebels on the "Ruidos de la calle" 2021 documentary I recently watched (check bellow its review), I decided to go for this an check it out. What you can hear on this total-in-your-face recording is a mixture of metallic sounds on guitars including the crunchy bass sound ala "Scum" from NAPALM DEATH(UK) , so you end up with an HC-Punk-Thrash-Grindcore mixture sung in Spanish with total rebel attitude, the name of this release says it all, totally in my line, besides the tracks and chorus also reflect that, best tracks are "Buscando en la vida un modo de ser" , "Fuerza Pública", "Poder Subversibo", "Brutalidad Policia-k" , "Cuando la Violencia acabe con Nosotros" which reminded me of ATOXXXICO(Mex) , "Anarquía para todos" happens to have some 200 MUERTOS(Par) and due to its lyrics I could not avoid thinking of ANARKIA(Chl) . Hugely recommended for those who think for themselves in a non-selfishfukway! DISARM(Jpn) - After the D 1988 demo, I don't have it under my possession. What do you know? I just came across with this by chance on the internet and realised this was never an American band but a Japanese one and the demo wasn't entitled "After the Dead" but in the way I wrote it now. Holly hell; I would never get this one way of the other if this was totally mistaken... fuk man, after more than a decade I still look for this and if someone is willing to help me, I will be more than grateful. Now that I happen to be able to check the full EP online, I realised it's much in the HC vein and indeed, If I look at it retrospectively, it sounds totally japanase, mostly because of the way it's screamed, some tracks are totally deathrash but some others do not, that's probably why this band was spread around as a b-side . Anyway, this is a fukin killer B-SIDE recording but the A-side is not that bad either, if you are also into HC this is a killer recording. I still cannot processes this had another side! JA! If you already read my site, you know I was/am obssessed with this side, so you must try to get this as much as I have been doing it! RUIDO EN LAS CALLES(Pan) - Panamenian Scene 2021 documentary. This is spectacularly done, I thought "El Diablo Nació en Medellin" from Colombian Ultra Metal scene was spectacular, but this goes even beyond (anyway the colombian one is still spectacular ha ha! ). This documentary exposes tons of individuals who helped to develop the underground scene, overall it highlights the absolutely interesting cultural aspects of their society as a whole, they seem to be astonishingly helpful and kind to each other, you can definitely visualize an undeground brotherhood, something most countries lack. As one desperately expected, yes, it counts on a great amount of stories from the beginnings of this trip. I have no more words to express my ideas, this is a total must and an entry point for those unknowing projects from there. Thank you so much my old argentinian batard friend carlos for this killer recommendation! MORBID FAITH (Ger) - issue #20 it's now out! For those sick of the media, this is the anti-media, we don't need instant access to everything in the world, we set our own pace to properly support underground dwellers from every corner on the earth. The IRON LEGION is here.
