Obscure and fluent Thrash/Death Metal from Mexico, influenced by classics, they developed a quite organic recording with identity, thanks to the production, which is quite Chilean in general terms I would say. I can think of little POSSESSED(US) , SLAYER(US) , CANCER(UK) , DEATH(US) with some traces of OBITUARY(US) mainly on some ideas for the vocals, some BLOOD FEAST(US) , which is also mixed with AGRESSOR(Bra) , EXPLICIT HATE(Bra) , SCHIZOPHRENIA(Arg) and NIMROD(Chl) . Guitar work is the most remarkable on this demo, solos are impressive, on a couple of tracks you can even perceive the british new wave kind of rythms. It has some particular tracks that bright among the others, like "The Great Whore" , "Same Destination... Death" (which was part of their first demo) . Highly recommended for those looking for interesting mexican recordings out there. Their demo from the 90s was included, "The day the earth vomited her horrors", this demo was what I was particularly looking for, it will take you to the MORTUARY(Mex) demo due to its production, and kills. The first track is "Same Destination... Death", and here I can realise it has some accelerated DEATHROW(Ger) influences; at its beginning can take you to AGRESSOR(Fra) too. The "The day the earth vomited her horrors" inspired by "Zombie Ritual" tremolos, is the second track. "Torture Territory" it's listed as the final and inedit track, but is the third track of the demo, quite DRENCROM(Chl) -ish in fact, "Slaves of the Crucifix" also rings the bell at times because the guitar tune is just like POISON(Ger) 's Uli . "Mistress of Throko" is the last one despite being wrongly listed, this one made me think of "Make her suffer" by DRENCROM. Well, I totally encourage you to get this CD , it's indeed a good catch. SAVAGE DEATH(US) - Crucified after Genocide LP compilation, done by FOAD Records. This is an spectacular release compiling both classic demos from this cult project. If you dig in the origins of Death Metal this is unavoidable. This is inspired by POSSESSED(US) , SLAYER(US) and the likes, sharing chaos with TERMINAL DEATH(US) , INSANITY(US) , MANTAS(US) , MALFEITOR(US) , ARCHENEMY(US) and tons of other early north-american deathrashing projects. "Massive Genocide" from 1985, opens side A with the skullkrushing "Evil Dead" track, followed by "Legions of Doom" with the brainstucking solo-phrasing, goes on with "Bring me the guts of the priest" still axe-killing, persecuted with the absolutely astonishing "Satans Throne" track, NO ONE CAN CONQUER SATANS THRONE!! arghh!!! dying with the final "Savage Death". B-side is their second demo entitled "Crucified in hell" from 1986 , now you realise why the title of the compilation. "Crucified in hell" jumps in with a similar intro used in "Savage Death" track, more in the POSSESSED vein and some DESECRATION(US) way of performing almost HC vocals, but still wicked. "Cancer" is a little bit more Speed Metal and phrases make you think of VOOR(Can) 's "In the hell" . "Sentenced beyond the grave" keeps the same line. "I impaled your mother" is an HC-idea made into Thrash. "Spit on the cross" goes back to their line, the tone and idea on its solo took me to NECROVORE(US) , "Mass Genocide" uses the same solo-phrasing resource used in "Legion of doom" which is great, for its beginning. "The Advisary" seems to be another version of "Evil Dead" track but renamed. "Kill the possers" is HC-inspired too and closes the demo. Another take of "Mass genocide" was included which is also great. Never thought of buying this 12'' but the work done here is spectacular honestly and totally serves its purpose, includes a 5-pages insert A4-size with hell of an art, including some reviews and interviews plus flyers, taken from fanzines of that time. I am not sure if the AreaDeath Prods CD is still trackable but this FOAD release is just out, and you should take it or trade dubbed tapes, this is fuking excellent, solid drumming, spectacular rythms and solos by joe burrows and tom stevens, great bass lines and a killer vox is what you will find here. For me this band has always been one of those called "A must". If you like to dig further, I encourage you to follow Tom Stevens projects, like MORPHEUS DESCENDS(US) (not my kind of beer but good too) and the impressive, yet more modern approached style, NOKTURNEL(US) . Hugely recommended for archeodeathrashers! INCINERATOR(Ita) - Mass Genocide demo from 1987, RE by FOAD Records on 12'' . This was a demo I have never listened to before. This is a Thrash metal recording really brazilian, you will find a great mixture between SEPULTURA(Bra) and VULCANO(Bra) , "Insomnia" is absolutely influenced by "Mayhem" from SEPULTURA but vocal tune is quite in the VULCANO's angel ways. "Attack of Violence" is just what its title claims, killer track. "Death again" is almost Death Metal with its speed and fierce. "Mass genocide" still deather but yet thrash, killer too. "Captured by the flames" still on that line, seems faster tracks are all together, great too. "Killing tendencies" is the final track, short and fast. After all, really good demo and highly recommended! Side B is their "Live into the crematorium" demo from 1986 which I already had a dubbed tape of it, never wrote about it though. "Crematorium" starts in the Speed metal vein with deathrash recording sound that turns into Heavy metal for the solo part, then dies. "Mass genocide" words where spared above, this demo also had this track, here it is rawer, as expected, but the sound also kills, the vocals are more chaotic and probably less brazilian but more italian, you can even think of RAW POWER(Ita) vocals and some faraway Ingo when in SCHIZO(Ita) , "main frame collapse" era. "Incinerator" has an arpeggio beginning, then you will get an SLAYER(US) -ish riff , "Show no mercy era", mixed with the british wave, it's an excellent track, INCINERATOR YOU'RE DEATH!! , that made me think of "Bang bang you're dead" by YOG SOTHOTH(Can) HA! . "Terminal Vivisection" ends this great demo, mimicking some SLAYER's "Antichrist" when it starts, total obscure thrash, following the very same line as before. This reissue allows us to understand the steps followed by this band, it's impressive. Highly recommended. Thanks my friend mediocridad who enlightened me with this project some years ago now! POISON(Ger) - Awakening of the Dead demo 1986, RE, once more, on 2024 by FOAD Records on 12''. This comes with a great A4 insert with interviews and reviews from fanzines of the time, even including the ugly one included in the BLACKTHORN(Dnk) fanzine ha! That was hell of honest and exciting to be put. This demo starts with "Satans command" which is quite dull, a track that comes from their "Bestial Death" demo if I am not mistaken, provides nothing too exciting, not in that demo, neither here. "Wake the dead" also coming from that demo, but the sound is clearer and Uli's axe is more sharp so you definitely enjoy this, this is the first demo that gets closer to what their "Into the Abyss" was, so you know what I mean, take it as a mixture among their MLP and their early ugly recordings, the result is absolutely good. "Yog Sothoth" , the keeper of the gates, is here to stab your brain, I believe the bass is much more chaotic and virgin slaughter mumblings are more insane, but over-reverbed. "Antichrist" is faster, dirtier and deather, also from their previous demo but this sounds better, yet more live than the previous tracks. Side B starts with the classic "Alive (undead)" , greatness, Uli's ways are the heart of POISON's identity in my opinion, the scales he uses were quiet unique in the death metal realm from those years. "Legions of Hell" is so BLACK SABBATH(UK) , this dates from their first recording intent in "Sons of Evil" demo but better recorded, still not super. "Black Death" is the end, a live recording from 1985 that was spectacularly captured. Hugely recommended for any deathrasher who really enjoys this mighty bastards. SIN RASTRO(Uru) - "En carne viva" 2017 , independently released on CDR plus procovers. This is a rock'n roll band inspired by classic Hard Rock & Heavy Metal from Argentina, RIFF(ARG) meeting HERMETICA(Arg) , in vox mainly, at the same time with a local touch that leads to CHOPPER(Ury) and also ACIDO(Ury) post-single era, with some BLACK SABBATH(UK) here and there. This is a live recording with hell of an execution and production, sounds absolutetly killer. Tracks are "Quiero matar a la muerte" (I want to kill the Death) , "737", "Paranoico" (Paranoid) , "Cae la Noche" (The night falls) , "No me siento normal" (I don't feel normal) , "Dios devorador" (by RIFF(Arg) ) , "El día que me cojí a la luna" (The day I fuck the moon) , "Caretas" (false ones) , "Niños Calzados" (Kids on shoes, refering to kids with guns, a local expression) pretty HC , killer track , "Destrucción" ( V8(Arg) cover ) and lastly "Campera de cuero" (Leather jacket) totally rocknroller with tons of swing and at the same time violence. This band emmanates tons of energy live, so this is greatly done. Highly recommended for rockers and those willing to support a band from the West part of Montevideo, real warriors here! Rodrigo martinez was a fukin killer rock guitar player to stare at! SIN RASTRO(Ury) - "Campera de cuero" 2017, CDR by Chaotic Records plus procovers. The production here is much sharper, seems some bass is missing for the bass and also the drums, guitars are spectacular, here you can appreciate the soloing in full details. If you know Мастер(Rus) , the artwork seems like cloned! HA! This time, to connect them again with some other local project, I would mention MAMUT(Ury) , mostly because the starting track "Campera de cuero" took me their style in their first EP recordings, and phrases led me to "Fetos Muertos" from MARCA ACME(Ury) in a much slower style of course. "No me siento normal" , seems another mix, has the bass needed, the attack on guitars is better here than on the live recording, so even though these tracks are most of them from the very same period of time, here you get that pounding needed dosis, this particular track has ACDC(Aus) influences. "Paranoico" , the mix was kept and on, so sounds killer too, the drumming expression is execellent, the ambient sound helps to achieve the whole organic result. "Queiro matar a la muerte" with that arpeggio reminded me of RETROSATAN(Arg), then melting to BLACK SABBATH(UK) -ish riffings... pretty doomishly obscure, believe it or not, this also made me think of live gigs done by ATROZER(Ury) when playing "Espirales" from CROSS(Ury) , and in fact, some lyrical affinity with CROSS is present without any doubt, this version kills. Followed by "737" and then "Dios Devorador" by RIFF(Arg) . "Cae la noche" which is good and finally "Un ratito más" for a great finale! DRACULA(Rus) - Соната для Сатаны 1990, RE 2025 by Nwn on vinyl. Starting with a typical Hard Rock sound from the 70s, it soon explodes into that Russian Thrash Metal I fukin love with russian barkings here and there in the line of FALANGA(Rus) , with that classical music scales as part of the solo works and rythms that could also be linked to POST(Rus) , but not that aggressive, also makes them be really next to Heavy Metal, excellent sound with a total present bass line. I must say it also sounds quite Czech, expressions in the vox are somehow like TORR(Cze) or TERMINATOR(Cze) , guitar tune could even be transported to the locals GRAF SPEE(Ury) in track "Соната для Сатаны". Side B " Покойный город" reminded me of the paraguayan punk act RABIA CALLEJERA(Par) 's "Revoltosos". Even though this is not a super interesting project like many other russian attacks, this is quite good and will please any russianthrash-addict out there. I was surprised when checked the poster with the alternative artwork, that one was also meant to be used for дракула(Bie) , the bielorussian DRACULA, which was going to be out by OSDM Records on CD a couple of years ago. Hopefully in the future, I will have the answer of why this artwork was part of this release too HA! [archived - not released] дракула (Bie) - Король ада demo 1991 by OSDMM Records RE 2021. What one can expect from the eastern block other than violent trashing power?! DRACULA, from Belarus, despite having such a common name and not tempting you to think this band worth it, remember it comes from the lands of 80s outstanding distortion! I could mention this as a faster version of PROPELLER(RUS) with a vocalist quite similar to the vocal tune REPULSION(US) has. The main riffs in their first track "BaMnNp" takes you automatically to AGRESSOR(FRA)'s "Paralytic Disease". With such a dirty guitar and drummings including their violent vocals you are instantly set. "Aopora B aA" starts with a kind of ambient slow and short intro, those used chords or effects made me think of ARPECOP(Bul) or was it ASPID(RUS)? the vein of the riffs are still preserved right after that. I would say they get quite repetitive but the music is pretty good to scream out loud whatever vomits were they throwing, in this particular track the vocals seem more alkoholik if you know what I mean. "3OB MOrNnbI" has the same kind of resources previously used in that short intro I mentioned, but prevail as arrangements with those chords, man this gets better on each track, expect more brutal barking! be aware! "Bcex Bac Y6bëT" has a pretty doomish intro with some arrangement, but also short so you never get distracted from their manic speed. At this phase you realise they found a way of composing and clone it till the end of times, which does not disappoint at all. "Koponb aAa" starts and a great solo jumps in over the rhythm of a Russian version of SLAYER(US) , I cannot avoid to think about that when those kind of drums are used. Those chords man... as I previously stated, this guy do the math before composing! those known as dissonant (a pro guitar player once told me that name) are from outer space, were they abducted by aliens?! HA HA! Suddenly "He xoTNM yMNpaTb" follows, kind of funny surfing Thrash Metal, even though this is not the fastest track, the agression on vocals and the fast phrasing satisfy the speed dosis, great soloing too, sadly the recording is quite old, probably not well done back in the time so those don't shine too much but whoever is digging this will notice the great guitar vibe undoubtly. The track "rpewHNk" has a pretty famous riff by BLOOD FEAST(US) on their track "Blood Lust" and the influences gathered by SODOM(GER) are pretty visible in here too; then it gets cut by some melodic acoustic/distorted guitars and short solo, which is short luckily because I felt it quite weird. More than a demo this could be a full length with no problem, all tracks are quite long and consistent, the sound is not bad either to consider it an LP, and closes with an instrumental track named "NHcTpyMehHTan" which is good too, also some pretty common riffs are found, probably coming from a more British Heavy Metal background, I don't want to say IRON MAIDEN but it seems so, and always with that aforementioned magnificent distortion. Like always, 80's eastern skullkrushingthunders never disappoint and hidden gems from there are always more than welcome, increase the malefice on your collection and get this right away while it is hot! This came out to the global light now so take your chance or die by the hands of mad men! This was meant to be written here after its release, but never happened, so I am publishing it now that I got the other DRACULA band. PENTAGRAM(Chl) - Demos 2025, by Nwn Productions, double LP compilation. PENTAGRAM is the most well known project from chile, not because it is just popular, but because it's an exquisite Deaththrash metal project, a total must. Side A is "Demo #1" from 1987, its tracks are all equally fantastic, "Fatal predictions" , "Demoniac Possession" and "Spell of the Pentagram" , the compositions stand over a solid POSSESSED(US) influence in terms of guitars plus a solid DARK ANGEL(US) , SLAYER(US) and POSSESSED influence on drumming. This is a clear stepforward in the Thrash Metal realm, with an obscure touch, a keystone in Deathrash. Side B is "Demo #2" from 1987 too, including "The Malefice", "Profaner" and "Temple of Perdition" , with its outstanding composition and violent originality, definitely, this chosen order for a 12'', is what one could picture on its mind as their first album, it was done before by labels like Picoroco Records and some others, sadly, that did not happen back in their time, but at least now we can get this masterpiece, if you have lost the opportunity to get the reissues done in the past, like myself, now it's your chance, don't miss it! The second LP, side C, has a rehearsal dated in 1985, which is great to have, and side D is three tracks taken from the gig in 1987 at Manuel Plaza. This compilation, in terms of media, is superbly done, includes an insert in A4 fanzine-aesthethics which is great and tells the story behind the band including spectacular pictures in full color. What I did not like was that the opaque paper for the fanzine (ruin the full-color pictures) and the cardboard used for the art, somehow depicts cheap quality, I saw this before on 12'' and also in posters included, like NWN release of Аспид(Rus) , seems so cheap that I don't see the point on doing it, does not look good but weak, poor, like saving money, anyhow I admit that the price for these was okey for what you get, but a couple of some extra coins for a proper paper/cardboard would have done a huge difference. Anyway, this does not ruin the release, if you can get it, do it, it totally worths it! I am fukin full of joy with this. Anyone uknowing this killerdeathrashing beast should do some homeworks, hugely recommended! SS-20(Kaz) - Preacher of Death demo 1992, RE by Metalrace Records from Russia some years ago, as bonus tracks from SERMON(Rus) project that follows this one. I have never enjoyed too much SERMON but I did enjoy the previous demo, I saw when this was reissued but I could not buy it, restrictions in packages from Russia to my country, chose POST(Rus) reissue,etc and so on... but I have never realised that the label put the WAV files on its bandcamp (which I had no idea it even existed!) . So I ended up dubbing a tape. This band dates from USSR times coming from Kazakhstan (this is a fact I learnt recently, I always thought they were from Moscow). Anyway, this is a 5 track demo with greatly vomited guts on vox and the classic distortion from those places which is fukin exquisite. The difference with some other projects from those places is they explored in some technical aspects that would defined them as a Technical Death/Thrash/Doom/Black Metal band, to link them with russian projects I would say Клиника(Rus) (mainly in vox but differnt approach, less thrasher) and Сукина Дочь(Rus) , I can think of some buglarian projects too like Оберън(Bul) and Ексхуматор(Bul) with Czech touches, like from SATANCHIST(Cze) and may be some KRABATHOR(Cze) too , the mixture in some environments can even take you to the mighty sounds of Дажд(Ser) . If you are willing to experiment uncommon but killer deathrashing fierce with influences coming from other spectrum of death, then suit yourselves with this great desecration! DEATH INVOKER(Per) - Impure Spirits of Destruction 2019, split CD with EMPHERIS(Pol) done by Old Temple Records. This includes an intro and a couple of tracks of each band. I did not know EMPHERIS, and is a Black Metal band inspired mainly by BATHORY(Swe) but I feel it some VENOM(UK) too, something on the vocals took me to BLACK BEAST(Chl) . It's a pretty good recording from them despite I am not following that kind of metal. DEATH INVOKER included an intro mimicking those done by MORTUARY DRAPE(Ita) and got really well done, one of their tracks is the killer "Divination through Death Spirits" while the other is "Occult Abomination" which I did not know, the effect on vox reminded me of INFERNAL CURSE(Arg) at some points, even though on their 2010 demo the vox was more ripping, now it's more growl and deep, I noticed that shift on their EP "Necromansy Damnation and Revenge" and seems it's their way now, it's a pretty dense and obscure track, great works on drums. This is a pretty good split if you don't know any of the bands, great work! DEATH INVOKER(Per) - Necromantic Desecration 2016 by Sociedade Dos Mortos on CD. The live sound is spectacular. Includes three covers of their main influences, SEPULTURA(Bra) and SARCOFAGO(Bra) , depicted even on the excellent artwork. Recommended for those into live recordings and those willing to experience tracks from their first demo in a live expression! DEATH ANGELS(Bra) - Noite Negra demo 1984, RE on CD by Area Death Productions in 2014. This is a raw recording of a rehearsal pretty amateurish. I got into this band more than 15 years ago, I knew it was raw, it was suppose to be the first death metal band from brazil but it is not, it's more like a first attempt into Thrash Metal little bit more obscure than the typical brazilian Thrash. This is only good for hystorical purposes, not to cut your veins. SP METAL I(Bra) - 1984 Bootleg compilation on pro CD, remastered in 1999. This includes a couple of tracks from these Heavy Metal acts: starting with AVENGER(Bra) influenced by TED NUGENT(US) and JUDAS PRIEST(UK) in "missao metallica" excellent track, CENTURIAS(Bra) seems influenced by ACDC(Aus) and DEEP PURPLE(UK) check the bass and guitar works mimicking a keyboard, well done, the rythm on vox reminded me of STRATUS(Ury) and an environment of ACIDO(URY) , this is also a good one entitled "Duas Rodas", VIRUS(Bra) 's "Mattheuw Hopkins" is a brasilian version of RETROSATAN(Arg) with some ATLAIN(Ger) touch, guitar tune in solos takes me to DELIRIUM TREMENS(Ury) and has a background recording sound like SUPER RATON(ARG) , SALARIO MINIMO(Bra) 's "Cabeca Metal" seems influenced by BLITZKRIEG(UK) , chorus are great, pretty good track too. "Portas negras" goes back again to CENTURIAS, and now seems more IRON MAIDEN(UK) so it's also near to RETROSATAN, still keeping the DEEP PURPLE influences. SALARIO MINIMO follows with "Delirio Estrelar" , little bit more punk, took me to ESKORBUTO(Spa) 's "Historia Triste", with a quite melodic chorus I found disgusting in this branch of Metal. "Cidadao do Mundo" by AVENGER , this time more into the RETROSATAN line but also with an awful melodic rythm for the chorus. "Batalha no sector Antares" by VIRUS closes this compilation in the very same line as before where I think ALVACAST(Ury) could be referenced too, this band seems the fastest among the rest, so it's the more appealing to me. This compilation seems to have a proper order, to keep it interesting. Good compilation fullfilling its aim, to know HM projects from brasil I had no idea of! SP METAL II(Bra) - 1985 bootleg compilation on pro CD. The following year Baratos Afins released the second part of this compilation, this time including SANTUARIO(Bra) "Espartaco,Gladiador Rei" as if it was a brazilian BLITZKRIEG(UK) , not that good honestly. "Principe da Oscuridad" by the migthy KORZUS(Bra) , my previous review regarding their 1st album and the comparisson I did before with local acts is still valid on this recording, kills. "Rock Rock Rock" by ABUTRE(Bra) , I found it in a BLITZKRIEG vein too, not that good either. "Viajante Perdido" by PERFORMANCES(Bra) has tons of original ingridients here and there, mostly in vocals, but cloned the "Sweet Danger" chorus rythm by ANGEL WITCH(UK) . "Quando fogo comenca arder" by ABUTRE(Bra) , now mixing some BLACK SABBATH(UK) , not bad. Again PERFORMANCES with "Guerrero da paz" as if it were MACBETH(Ury) mixed with ALVACAST(Ury) , not good. SANTUARIO this time cloning ZOETROPE(US) 's "Indicent Obsession" , it's great but just copied. Closes another great track by KORZUS "Guerreros do metal" , in the end, the best on this compilation. LEGION OF TORTURE(Per) - Issue #5 , 2022. This is one of the best fanzines from latinamerica (if not in the whole world) coming from Perú, its highlights are the in-detail interviews, attitude and knowledge, plus the most important fact, questions helping to develop really good answers from the interviewees, even though some are re-used (which is common), the creativity dosis is totally fullfilled! This issue starts with a couple of impressive interviews, BELLS OF ACHERON(Col) / Trauma Records 's Jesus, really well done, great words to be read (greetings Jesus!). The next one in the same tune but due to its context is richer, COMBAT NOISE(Cub) / FROM THE GRAVES(Cub) , killer too, in the same level as the one I read in DTP(Arg) (beers Carlos!), with a different approach but extremely well done. Then follows a PHERETRUM(URY) interview, it was really fun to reply it my friend, I'm honoured! NEKRO CULT DESECRATION(Ven) was the next read, interesting and exposing some names from Venezuela that helps the grave diggers out there ( greetings Johan! ). HOD(US) interview is impressive in total words, excellent questions! killer info and funny stories! I will have to check their music! To my surprise a Serbian band was also included, TERRORHAMMER(Ser) , I had no idea about them and I will look for their music sooner or later, the interview was really good (hey juan, I loved your comments on what rules to follow as metalheads and who are the ones dictating those! tricky, I follow your lines, interesting point of view indeed, and somehow contradictions among metal concepts, but... "there's no forgiveness for a backstabber!!! ") . Then some good life experiences regarding gigs can be gathered from DIABOLICAL MESSIAH(Chl) and an average int. IN OBSCURITY REVEALED(Mex) .
